Our Founder

AbdulHakeem Uthman Mustapha is one of Nigeria’s most distinguished legal practitioners and the founding force behind A.U. Mustapha & Co. His career spans over three decades of legal practice that has shaped major transactions, protected leading institutions, and advanced the cause of justice at the highest levels of Nigeria’s legal system.

A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1988), Mr. Mustapha holds a Master of Laws in International Business Law from Suffolk Law School, Boston, and an MBA from Business School Netherlands. He is an alumnus of both Harvard Business School and Manchester Business School — credentials that reflect not only deep legal expertise but a sophisticated understanding of business and commerce at a global level.

Before founding A.U. Mustapha & Co, Mr. Mustapha served with the now-defunct Nigeria Merchant Bank Plc for over six years, building a command of banking, commercial, and financial law that few legal practitioners can match. That grounding in the commercial world continues to define how the firm approaches every transaction and dispute it handles.

On 19 September 2016, he was conferred with the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (S.A.N.) — one of the highest distinctions in the Nigerian legal profession, reserved for practitioners of exceptional competence and character. He is a member of the International Bar Association, the Nigerian Bar Association, and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association.

Today, Mr. Mustapha continues to lead A.U. Mustapha & Co with the same rigour, integrity, and commercial acumen that have defined his career. He remains personally engaged in the firm’s most significant matters, pairing the authority of a Senior Advocate with the strategic perspective of a seasoned businessman. Beyond his own practice, he is a dedicated mentor to a new generation of lawyers, instilling in the firm the values that have always guided him: diligence, sound judgment, and an unwavering commitment to the interests of every client the firm serves.
