Our Executive Partner

The mind and leadership guiding the firm's pursuit of justice.

Dr. Muinat Mustapha, Ph.D.

Executive Partner · Legal Scholar & Gender Rights Advocate

Dr. Muinat Mustapha is the Executive Partner of A.U. Mustapha & Co, bringing to the firm a rare combination of academic depth and a lifelong commitment to justice. Her work sits at the meeting point of rigorous legal scholarship and practical advocacy, and that perspective shapes how the firm approaches the matters entrusted to it, particularly those touching on the rights and protection of vulnerable people.

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Law and Social Policy from St Mary’s University, Twickenham, United Kingdom. Her doctoral research examined the legal framework and the interventions available for tackling sexual and gender based violence within Internally Displaced Persons camps in North East Nigeria. The work interrogated the distance between protective legal instruments and their enforcement on the ground, and offered clear recommendations for strengthening institutional response and survivor protection.

Dr. Mustapha’s core areas of expertise are Gender Law and Criminology, fields in which she combines doctrinal precision with a socially grounded, policy oriented outlook. This dual command of theory and practice allows her to guide clients and colleagues through complex questions with both technical authority and a clear sense of their human consequences.

Alongside her work at the firm, she serves as a Lecturer in the Faculty of Law, University of Abuja, where she teaches Law of Evidence, Criminology, and Gender Rights. Her engagement with the next generation of lawyers keeps the firm connected to current legal thinking and reinforces the standards of diligence and integrity that define its practice.

She has published and co authored work in several scholarly journals and contributes to legal scholarship as a member of an editorial board. Beyond her practice and her teaching, she is actively involved in community outreach and lends her expertise to initiatives that advance social justice and gender rights, carrying that same commitment into the firm’s leadership.
